A spotlight on the 2022 Pantone colour

14 January 2022

It’s a brand-new year which means there is a new Pantone colour of the year!

Each year Pantone’s Colour Institute announce their ‘Colour of the Year’ and how it will influence many industries around the world.

But first, what is Pantone?

Pantone is the universal language of colour that is used throughout every stage of the workflow for brands and manufacturers. Pantone colours help define, communicate and control colour and it is something that 10 million designers and printers rely on.

Pantone has announced that the 2022 colour of the year is:

Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri

It has been chosen to reflect what is taking place in our global culture. It encompasses the qualities of blues and violet-red undertones, allowing it to be used in various colour palettes to convey courageous creativity and imaginative expression. The colour is commonly found in nature, such as flowers and birds.

But why is there a ‘Pantone Colour of the year’?

Pantone colour institute is a business unit within Pantone that highlights the top seasonal runway colours and forecast global trends.

The Pantone Colour of the Year process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. The colour experts explore a range of industries for new colour influences including:

  • Entertainment and film industry
  • Travelling art collections
  • Fashion
  • Travel destinations
  • Lifestyles
  • Sporting events
  • Technology

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for the last 23 years has had a huge influence on product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries including fashion, home furnishing, industrial design, product packaging and graphic design.
